Formal Paper Proposal #2

Topic: How women are subliminally subjected by advertisements to conform towards what the media believes the true embodiment of beauty is and how girls will go out of their ways to get desired attention from those who they view as cool or popular.

Exigence: To inform women of all ages that they shouldn’t follow media driven images and to be themselves rather than what seems to be desirable.

Audience: The female gender, and all readers.

Purpose: To negate media implied sublimes and draw out the true definition of beauty in women.

Claim: That the images that the media places in order to sell a product or beautify a company strongly influence the way girls of all ages dress, act, and live.

Writer’s Strategy #1: Cause and Effect: By analyzing major influences emitted from the media I can relate them to the particular outcomes and behaviors that women embody due to these influences.

Reader’s Effect #1: By understanding where the initial influences originate and what to expect from them, readers will be more prepared when encountering these stimuli and are hopefully more capable of avoiding the bad outcomes. In other words, readers will know what to look out for in the media and what to avoid doing.

Writer’s Strategy #2: Logos: I will draw facts and examples from current day media in order to see nowadays influences and explain how they can be potentially fateful in a long term view.

Reader’s Strategy #2: Logical facts and current day examples will help the reader connect with my writing by having familiar images that they can imagine while reading.

Writer’s Strategy #3: Ethos: Although I am a male, I have been able to see first hand through my experiences in high school and college how women act around particular people and in particular manners in order to get desired attention.

Reader’s Effect #3: Female readers will be able to see my male point of view and understand what it looks like seeing them act in foolish ways to embody media imagery and earn certain cool factors by not behaving as who they truly are. Male readers will be able to relate to my views and get on my level.

Response: This should be a very interesting paper to write based on such big topics. I am curious to see how things will turn out, not only in my paper but in the papers of my peers.
